• About Verendus Theatrical

Producing quality, awesome amateur theatrical experiences in South Australia!

Our mission at Verendus Theatrical is simple - find the best amateur talent we can and produce a great theatre experiences!!!
Our first production for the Adelaide Fringe in 2017 - the "One Act Comedy Spectacular" - was a huge success!!! Three great one act comedies - and a stack of other fun stuff had audiences raving - and no-one seemed tocare that we went for almost three hours!!!!

We then teamed up with Deadset Theatre Company - a team of young girls who wanted to produce a play that one of them had written based on the novel "Puberty Blues" by Kathy Lette and Gabrielle Carey.
We guided the girls on aspects of the script, sorted out a venue, provided financial assistance and helped make their dream a reality.
The result? Four sold out shows at the Holden Street Theatres in October 2016 - and then a succesful restaging in March 2017 at Stirling Community Theatre and three local schools as part of Adelaide Fringe.

For Adelaide Fringe 2018 we got even bolder - producing the "Fringe at Stirling" - a programme that saw 22 shows packed into one week at the Stirling Community Theatre - including our own "One Act Comedy Spectacular" (with three new one-act plays), as well as an International Comedy Gala, an Improvised Harry Potter murder mystery - and a very special cabaret act that was nominated for an ATG award.

We're always on the look out for stuff to produce. We look forward to partnering with writers, directors and actors who want to produce quality theatrical entertainment in Adelaide.

"Art" by Yasmina Reza - Holden Street Theatres - October 2019

    Art Banner

Directed by Tim Williams. With Tracey Walker, Lyn Wilson and Alicia Zorkovic.

Charlotte has bought a painting for $100,000. The play centres around what this purchase means to her two friends Marcia and Yvette. Marcia's response is quite volcanic; for her, Charlotte's purchase of the painting threatens to wreck their friendship. Yvette tries to mediate the disaffection between Charlotte and Marcia, often at the cost of redirecting their hostilities at herself.

The multi award winning play by French playwright Yasmina Reza - "Art" is a hilarious look at the tenuous nature of friendships.

Skylight - Holden Street Theatres - April 2020

    Skylight Banner

Directed by Tim Williams. With Alicia Zorkovic and Brant Eustice.
This will be the South Australian premiere of “Skylight” – written by David Hare in 1995 and first produced by The National Theatre where it won an Olivier Award for Best Play. Revived in 2015 it won 2015 Tony® Award for Best Revival of a Play.

On a chilly night in East London, schoolteacher Kyra Hollis receives an unexpected visit from Tom Sergeant, Kyra’s one-time boss and long-time lover. After the painful (and unresolved) dissolution of Tom and Kyra’s relationship, the pair have pulled away from each other physically, emotionally, and ideologically, as Tom continues to focus on his business ventures and Kyra donates her time to teaching the underprivileged. Tom and Kyra grapple with each other, moving between tender passion and vicious political polemics, as the night darkens and the lines between past and present begin to blur.

Skylight is a complex, thought-provoking, and remarkably timeless drama about power, politics and passion.

  • October 2017 - Puberty Blues

Written and Directed by Zoe Muller

    Puberty Blues Banner

In partnership with Deadset Theatre Company
In 2016, Verendus was approached by a new start-up group, Deadset Theatre Company, who wanted help in producing a play that they had written based on the iconic 1979 novel "Puberty Blues" by Kathy Lette and Gabrielle Carey.

The group - all aged under 18 - had the passion and just needed guidance on how to get their vision to the stage. Verendus Theatrical helped them finacically with start-up capital, hired a performance space (Holden Street Theatres), got some publicity sorted, and looked after all the messing about with the paperwork.

    Puberty Blues - Part Two
Based on the success of the sold-out October shows, Verendus asked Deadset to re-stage the production for the Adelaide Fringe 2017 - as part of the "Fringe@Stirling" programme. In addition to the three shows at Stirling Community Theatre, the production was also put "on the road" and toured to three Adelaide High Schools. Verendus Theatrical produced some in-depth Teachers Notes to accompany the tour, allowing teachers and students to explore in greater detail some of the main themes brought up by the drama.
